SEO & AI Search Visibility Diagnostic
Find out how your business appears in Google search and in AI answers from assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini, and what deserves attention first.
This AI search visibility audit checks whether AI answers mention your business, describe it accurately and link to useful sources when buyers ask relevant questions. We review those answers alongside your Google search performance, website content and technical SEO.
For businesses with an English website serving the UK or US, it provides evidence and priorities before further investment in search, content or website changes, whether or not a marketing team is in place.
Talk through your search visibilityDo you know how visible your business really is?
You may already invest in SEO, content or website improvements, yet still be unsure:
whether AI answers mention your business and describe it correctly;
which competitors and sources appear for important buyer questions;
which products or services customers find through Google;
whether technical issues or gaps in content are affecting discovery;
whether your data is reliable enough to guide the next decision.
You do not need to know the underlying problem before we start. Finding that out is the purpose of the diagnostic.
What does the diagnostic cover?
We examine six connected areas, using the business questions agreed at the start.
AI-search visibility
We agree 20 buyer questions spanning the problems customers face, the solutions they consider and how they choose a provider. We test them across up to four named search and AI environments, selected for your audience and market.
For each question, we record brand mentions, links to your website, competitor appearances and the accuracy of the answer. A mention and a citation are different signals: an answer can name your business without linking to your content.
Traditional search performance
We use Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4 to see which searches bring people to your site, which pages they reach and what they do next. We look at searches with and without your business name, changes over time and gaps affecting your priority services.
Technical SEO foundations
A focused crawl and selected checks examine crawling, indexing, redirects, metadata, internal links, mobile performance and structured data. Findings requiring deeper technical investigation are identified for separate specialist work.
Competitors, citations and sources
We review selected competitors and pages cited in the sampled answers. We look for differences in content, evidence and positioning that may help explain visibility gaps. A citation shows which source was returned; it does not reveal why the system selected it.
Content clarity and authority
We assess whether selected priority pages explain what you offer, who it is for and the evidence behind your claims. We compare their coverage with the questions buyers ask and consider relevant evidence on the sampled external pages.
Measurement and business outcomes
We check whether the available search, analytics and enquiry signals can support useful decisions. If missing or unreliable data limits the diagnosis, we explain the limitation and the work needed to address it.
What the diagnostic can tell you
The assessment gives you a dated view of the questions and environments tested. It identifies where your business appears, where it is missing from that sample, how it is described and which sources are cited.
Answers can vary between platforms and between runs. We repeat a small selection of questions to check for variation, and distinguish observations from possible explanations. The sample is not a measure of your share of all AI searches.
You may encounter terms such as answer engine optimisation (AEO) and generative engine optimisation (GEO). Here, the task is to establish your current position and decide what needs attention. The diagnostic covers both AI answers and conventional search; implementation is a separate decision.

Talk through your search visibilityHow the diagnostic works
1
Agree the questions to investigate
In a 60-minute discovery call, we agree your priority customers, services, competitors and questions. We confirm the pages, environments and evidence to review.
2
Gather and connect the evidence
We review your search data, technical foundations, priority content and sampled AI answers. We bring related findings together and assess their business significance, urgency and strength of evidence.
3
Review the findings and priorities
Your team or existing agency can use the findings. Any further work with Bell to Sound is agreed separately.
Experience behind the assessment
Bell to Sound founder Phil Holden’s previous work includes:
Unify Square: led an SEO-focused WordPress and content programme, including keyword architecture and technical SEO improvements.
OneStock: owned keyword-to-page mapping and SEO/content governance, working with the website vendor on technical delivery.
What happens afterwards?
You decide which recommendations to take forward, with your own team, an existing agency or another specialist. Where suitable, Bell to Sound can separately scope and price an SEO & AI Search Visibility Improvement.
The diagnosis may point to technical fixes, stronger content, better measurement, specialist investigation or no immediate change in an area that is already working.
